Current Station
I currently operate a handful of radios on a regular basis, paired with a variety of antennas depending on band, location, and operating style.
Radios
For HF, I primarily run a Yaesu FT-891. I also own a (tr)uSDX low-band QRP radio, which I mainly use while traveling when bringing the FT-891 isn’t practical. For VHF/UHF, my main mobile rig is a Yaesu FTM-510DR, upgraded with the SP-01 module for improved weak-signal reception. Prior to that, I ran an FTM-6000R, which has since been repurposed as a dedicated digipeater / i-gate. I also use several handheld radios regularly. Most commonly these are my Yaesu FT5DR and BTECH UV-PRO, the latter largely due to its built-in Bluetooth TNC. In addition, I operate a BTECH DMR 6×2 Pro for DMR work and a Baofeng AR-5RM, which provides tri-band capability.
Antennas
My antenna lineup includes a mix of DIY and commercially built options. When operating in Colorado, my primary HF antenna is a Gabil GRA-7350TC, covering 80 m through 6 m. I also regularly use a KM4ACK EFHW, which I’ve found tunes successfully on 80 m and 60 m with good results. For longer fixed or semi-portable operations, I typically deploy a DX Commander Expedition. This allows operation from 160 m through 6 m with a tuner, and 40 m through 10 m without one. Additional antennas include an end-fed random wire (EFRW) and a linked dipole covering 80 m through 17 m, using Anderson Powerpole connectors for band linking.
Accessories
Supporting the station is an LDG Z-11ProII automatic tuner, paired with the FT-891. For portable operations, I typically run a 16 Ah LiFePO₄ battery.
